Established in 1992, the National Association for Professional Inspectors and Testers aims to set standards for the industry. Following changes to the Building Regulations (Parts F, G, H, J, and L in England and Wales) many electrical, plumbing, heating and ventilation contractors realised they had to notify work across several disciplines - this historically meant having to join several different Competent Persons Schemes in order to self certify and notify work. However, in April 2006, NAPIT was awarded additional licences by the Government, allowing it to expand then range of Schemes offered to include heating, plumbing and ventilation and introduced the 'Complete Solution'. This allows businesses registered by NAPIT to join just one organisation, with one membership fee, one assessment fee and one notification fee.
